Meet The Team

Janelle

I am Janelle Karnuth and I am a board-certified music therapist. I double majored in Music Therapy and Pre-Art Therapy at Indiana Wesleyan University. I completed my internship at a music therapy clinic in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I completed additional training to become an affiliate with the Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy®.

My therapeutic philosophy centers around client-centered care, creative expression, and a positive therapeutic relationship. I am passionate about multimodal therapy and creating meaningful moments for each client that empower them to live their best life. My background in NMT* helps me to prioritize the integration of science and research into my practice in order to provide the best care for clients. I recognize that each client is unique, and I strive to find the best approach to meet their individual needs.

I have 3 years of experience dedicated to working with older adults who have memory related disorders such as Dementia and Parkinson. I also have experience working with at-risk students, students in an alternative learning program, and kids and teens with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Here at Mainstay, I provide music therapy services to Noblesville, Fishers, Westfield, Carmel, and Indianapolis.

Outside of music therapy sessions, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, being outdoors, traveling, learning about different cultures and languages, reading, and creating art.

*Definition of NMT™: The Neurologic Music Therapy® (NMT™) System of Techniques is a standardized evidence-based clinical treatment system of 20 techniques that is driven by advances in applied auditory music neuroscience and the clinical understanding of music perception, production, and cognition. The NMT™ System targets specific functional behaviors in the areas of cognition, sensorimotor, and speech and language based on a client’s diagnostics and treatment goals. The NMT™ system provides structured music-based exercises that are not only relevant to NMT™ music therapists but exemplify how music can be integrated into intervention practices for all allied healthcare professionals, in the disciplines such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, neuropsychology, and speech-language pathology.
