Mainstay offers a National Roster (AMTA) Internship site for music therapy students from any university.
Our next internship cycle to apply for is September 2027-February 2028. Applications are due 1/31/2027.
Interns at Mainstay can expect to learn clinical decision making grounded in a DIRFloortime framework with an emphasis on clinical improvisation. This means you will gain an understanding of human development, learn to identify and support people’s unique physiological, psychological, communication and sensory needs and learn to use the therapeutic relationship as the primary driver of change. Mainstay’s internship is primarily one on one with individuals with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities through Indiana’s Medicaid Waiver Program with small opportunities for group work. Interns will have the opportunity to work in hospice, per their preference.
This internship is designed to complete the required 1040 hours to be eligible to sit for the Music Therapy Certification Board Exam.
Mainstay is highly flexible and willing to adjust the program in order to best fit the intern’s needs.
